The Spencer Park area was established as a recreation ground in
1874 and was created as a domain in 1930. By 1942, 1/3 of an acre
was established as a basic camp site and with further development
over the following years, the Spencer Holiday Park camping ground
was officially opened in 1963. During the 60's, the Spencer Holiday
Park and the beach at Spencer Park become a popular destination for
holiday makers and residents of Christchurch. The late 60's saw a
limited lifeguard patrol established and during the year of 1969,
the founders of our club formally established the Spencer Park Surf
Life Saving Club. In 1970, the club was registered as an
Incorporated Society, and the club has provided a surf lifeguard
patrol service every summer since.
